The new era marked by the labor reform of 2019 has led companies to experience “true collective bargaining” and, in the case of Panasonic, an agreement was reached with the union’s representation that arose from the workers and will be submitted for voting in the next few days.
This was announced by Enrique García Conde, legal representative of the company who led the negotiation with the Independent Union of Industry and Service Workers “20/32 Movement” (SNITIS) and pointed out that it “was an interesting process”, particularly because Susana Prieto Terrazas -current congresswoman for Morena- of whom it was thought that the growth of her presence in the maquila sector in the north of the country “was going to be chaos”, is linked to this movement, without being a part of it
Panasonic Automotive Systems de México granted a direct increase to salary of 11.92%, in addition to the 20% that was set as an increase of the minimum wage in the month of December.
This is the first comprehensive revision of the Panasonic collective bargaining agreement with the SNITIS, headed by Rosario Moreno and will have to be submitted for voting by the workers.
It should be recalled that, with the labor reform of 2019, now all agreements made by the union leadership must be submitted for voting by the workers.
“We spent a period of a couple of weeks negotiating and at the end of the road we reached an agreement on Friday of last week and this Monday the proposal was presented at the Federal Center for Labor Conciliation and Registration for the date on which this agreement would be endorsed by the workers to be defined”, said García Conde.
He pointed out that these dynamics, in a year in which the new labor system is fully in place throughout the country, “are very interesting as, this being a comprehensive vision, consultation must be conducted.” Then, the truth is that she (Susana Prieto), very much in her role, and I believe, correctly, said “I cannot reach any agreement without first socializing it”, that is the word that she uses, ‘socializing’ it with the employee base is fundamental for a positive outcome.”
In this regard, the labor lawyer and federal congresswoman Susana Prieto said that in this negotiation the daytime working hours were reduced to 45 hours and several benefits such as birth, marriage and death assistance were attained; “these are benefits that are a given in a collective bargaining agreement and are now being attained with the Panasonic company.”
In addition to the agreement that was established in the collective bargaining agreement, there is a bonus of 4,584 pesos for each worker as an adjustment of working hours.
During 2022, in the federal and local jurisdictions, 2,861 salary revisions were resolved involving 1 million 772,877 workers who obtained an average salary increase of 6.0% in nominal terms and a decrease of 1.8% in real terms according to data of the National Minimum Wage Commission.
