After pointing out that they don’t know what will happen in the event that “many colleagues don´t attend for fear of contagion”, they stated that, given the pressure applied by the Mining Union, voting will be conducted despite all risks.

Workers participating in the voting process for LafargeHolcim, located in the state of Sonora, believe that it is irresponsible for the Federal Conciliation and Arbitration Board (JFCA) to conduct a union election process while the epidemiological traffic light is orange.

“The company has tried to take care of its workers and to establish all of the protocols required by the Department of Health; however, conducting a headcount is irresponsible, particularly because the people who are most vulnerable will have to participate”.

A headcount will be conducted this Thursday to determine whether the Union of Workers of the Cement Industry (STIC), headed by Felipe Sosa, and the National Union of Mine and Metal Workers of the Mexican Republic, headed by Napoleón Gómez Urrutia obtain the majority of workers’ votes to sign the collective bargaining agreement.
