Puebla, Pue. The Volkswagen Independent Union of Automotive Industry Workers (Sitiavw) presented the notice to strike before the Conciliation and Arbitration Board, thus starting the legal process for the contractual review with the company.

In this regard, the secretary of the abovementioned workers’ organization, José Juan Hernández, said that on this occasion in which they will negotiate the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CCT), it is premature to discuss that current conditions are not conductive for the 7,695 unionized workers receive improvements to their income and benefits.

On this occasion, the union requested a 12% salary increase from the German assembler, whose plant is located in the municipality of Cuautlancingo.

He explained that in the next few days, the Federal Board must summon the German company and notify its committee in order to start negotiations with the purpose of reaching an agreement,

Nevertheless, he explained, this does not prevent the parties from initiating negotiations aimed at resolving the contractual review, in order to avoid reaching the fatidic date, given that this would be energy consuming for both parties,

Supporting the company

The Sitiavw stated that there is “full support” for resuming work in the Puebla plant, as well as for complying with the annual production program, in spite of the entity being classified in the epidemiological red traffic light due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The workers’ representation insisted that they will attend the negotiation table in the spirit of listening to the executives but seeking to reach an agreement for the benefit of the plant workers, who have complied with the demands.

José Juan Hernández said that, being the employees of the most important industry within the state, they require better conditions because they have also responded favorably in tough times, when production needs to be increased.

Meanwhile, the assembler also presented a petitions document to the union leadership, which is being analyzed and discussed as negotiations between the two parties continue.
