Retirees’ Pensions will increase by 20 percent due to mandatory jurisprudence

The ISSSTE and the IMSS [Institute for Social Security and Services for State Workers and Mexican Social Security Institute, respectively] have the obligation to pay the pension of their retirees calculated based on the minimum wage.

MEXICO CITY – A court ruling, resolved on September 20 of this year and entering into force on the 23rd of the same month, creates the obligation for the ISSSTE and the IMSS to pay the pension of their retirees calculated based on the minimum wage and not on UMAs [Units of Measure and Update], as it had been previously done. In the event that the institutions refuse to comply with the mandatory jurisprudence, they can resort to the Conciliation and Arbitration Board.
